The Incognito Library Worker

So I went to a local library and did my secret shopper assignment this past weekend. I have to say, I wasn't exactly blown away. In fact, the librarian kind of gave me a deer-in-headlights look when I asked her if she had read anything good lately that she could recommend. I sympathize though, I'm sure I've given the same look to many patrons before! I told her two books that I had read before and enjoyed ( Gone Girl  and The Girl on the Train ), and she immediately went to the new shelf and handed me two books that she had read before that were similar. At a glance these seem like the books that I would love; I'll have to read them to see if they hold up! Overall I was disappointed that I wasn't asked any questions during the exchange. She took the two books that I mentioned and ran with it without taking the time to see if maybe I was in the mood for something different. I'm not sure if I would go back to get more reading suggestions. That would hinge on wh...

Prompt Response 1

1. I am looking for a book by Laurell K. Hamilton. I just read the third book in the Anita Blake series and I can’t figure out which one comes next! The fourth book in the series is titled The Lunatic Cafe and the whole series order can be viewed here: https://www.fantasticfiction.com/h/laurell-k-hamilton/ I used fantasticfiction.com to find the next book in the Anita Blake series. This website lists books in series order and is very easy to use. 2. What have I read recently? Well, I just finished this great book by Barbara Kingsolver, Prodigal Summer. I really liked the way it was written, you know, the way she used language. I wouldn't mind something a bit faster paced though. I used Novelist and Fantastic Fiction (for in depth book descriptions) and the book that I chose is The History of Bees by Maja Lunde. I chose this book because it is also about nature and humans connection to nature much like Prodigal Summer . The patron expressed interest in something fas...

Reading Profile

Hello! My favorite genres to read currently are thrillers and horror. My favorite books in the thriller genre that I've read in the past couple years include Watch the Girls  by Jennifer Wolfe, The Woman in the Window   by AJ Finn, The Woman in Cabin 10  by Ruth Ware,  The Girl on the Train  by Paula Hawkins (though I was NOT a fan of Into the Water , her second book) and Final Girls  by Riley Sager. Some of my favorite horror books that I've read recently include I'm Thinking of Ending Things  by Iain Reid, Slade House  by David Mitchell, and Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes. Some other authors and series I have enjoyed include Jane Harper's Aaron Faulk series about an investigator in Australia, Gillian Flynn's books, and also Ruth Ware's books. I enjoy books that are fast paced, plot driven and include twists and turns. Unreliable female narrators with a dark side are also a favorite of mine. I will read outside my preferred genres if they ...
